Colon Cancer or Colorectal Cancer is develop from the colon or rectum which is part of the large intestine.

Most colon cancer cases are due to old age and lifestyle factors with only few numbers of cases due to underlying genetic disorders. Risk factors may include obesity, lack of physical activity, diet and smoking.

1. Charlie Davao (October 7, 1934 – August 8, 2010)

Veteran character actor Charlie Davao, the father of award-winning actor Ricky Davao, died of colon cancer at the Philippine General hospital at the age of 75. He joined showbiz in 1959 under Sampaguita Pictures and landed his first leading role as a Filipino James Bond in “Pitong Matahari.” In his later years, he continued to act in TV shows such as “Totoy Bato” (GMA-7), and “Mula sa Puso” (ABS-CBN).

2. Susan Fuentes (November 1, 1954 – September 7, 2013)
Susan Fuentes, or better known as the Queen of Visayan Songs for popularizing classics such as “Usahay,” “Matud Nila,” and “Miss Kita Kung Christmas,” died of colon cancer in 2013 at the age of 58. Fuentes achieved success for being able to make hits in different music markets ( Visayan, Tagalog, Hiligaynon, and Ilocano).
3. Maria Corazon "Cory" Cojuangco Aquino ( January 25, 1933 – August 1, 2009)

Former President Cory Aquino was a Filipina politician who served as the 11th President of the Philippines and the first woman to hold that office.
On March 24, 2008, Aquino's family announced that the former President had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer.
By July 2009, Aquino was reported to be in very serious condition, suffering from loss of appetite, and was confined to the Makati Medical Center. It was later announced that Aquino and her family had decided to stop chemotherapy and other medical interventions for her.
Aquino died in the Makati Medical Center at 3:18 a.m. on August 1, 2009 due to cardiorespiratory arrest; she was 76. To provide people on Prevention-Awareness, here are the most common ignored symptoms of colon cancer as well as how to lessen the risk of its appearance in the very first place.

1. Abdominal Cramps- this symptom is also associated with other health issues which are not really cancerous situation and alarming , that is why people have easily ignored it. However, if you are experiencing abdominal cramps, it is necessary to know the difference, if the cramps have last longer and it is too intense, then it would be better to see a doctor immediately it might be a sign of colon cancer.




2. Fatigue- most people who are always busy at work experience it most of the time but the common reason for fatigue is lack of sleep and that is the reason why most people ignore this sign. In the case where fatigue become serious , even though you have taken a rest. have enough sleep and a balance-diet, accompanied with other sign of colon cancer. Then, it is about time to visit medical expert as soon as possible.

3. Unexpected weight loss- noticeable weight loss is more likely a sign of various kinds of cancer especially if you are not trying to shred your weight of at least 5% of your body weight in 6 months time. Cancer cells use the major part of the energy and it affects the immune system  which is responsible  for fighting against the disease. That’s the reason why people often loss vast amount of weight in this kind of health issue.  One more thing, if there’s a large tumor which blocking the colon that affects the bowel movement then it would also lead to weight loss.


4. Irregular Bowel Movement- Most people don’t give much regard when it comes to their bowel movement  and often times they neglect the signs that links to serious health issue, including colon cancer. People must be aware the timing, consistency and the appearance of these bowel movements to be able  to determine if urgent medical attention is needed. Colon polyps also known as a small amount of cells that can turn into a cancer one because the bowel movements are being affected when they eventually turned into tumors.


Early detection of serious health problems especially cancer is the best way to fight them. However, there is a saying that prevention is better than cure, so it would be better to live a healthy lifestyle to be able to prevent cancer.


According to WebMD, diet and exercise play a vital role to prevent colon cancer. National Cancer institute advised a low-fat high fiber diet that includes five servings of fruits and vegetables each day. It would be better to avoid fats in your diet like meat, eggs, dairy products and oils used in cooking and dressing.


Doing regular exercise is also very important to keep a healthy weight , it also fights inflammation and clear toxins in our body.
