BREAKING: Bangkay ng Vietnamese Hostage ng Abu Sayyaf Natagpuan na!

Another Vietnamese sailor held hostage for several months by the Abu Sayyaf Group was found dead in a Sulu village.

According to Radio Free Asia, the slain hostage was identified as Tran Viet Van; the third Vietnamese sailor killed this month. His bullet-riddled body was found among several corpses in Barangay Buhanginan in Patikul, Sulu on July 8 following a raid by the military against the Abu Sayyaf Group.

It is not clear if the victim was executed by the bandits or was killed in the crossfire.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang confirmed the sailor’s death.

“I am deeply saddened to affirm that the Vietnamese citizen Tran Viet Van has been killed after an attack by the Philippines military forces targeting Abu Sayyaf,” Hang said.

Van was among the six crew of Vietnamese vessel Royal 16 snatched by the bandits on November 11, 2016. Two of his companions – Hoang Van Hai and Hoang Trung Thong – were beheaded last July 5, while Hoang Vo, 28, was rescued late last month after he escaped at the height of the military operations in Sumisip town in Basilan.
