BREAKING: Abu Sayyaf Kidnap 5 Construction Workers sa Patikul Sulu

Suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits took five construction workers in Patikul, Sulu yesterday.

Edmundo Ramos, Jayson Baylosis, Joker Adanza and Jun Guerrero, residents of Barangay Tumaga in this city, and Jenly Miranda of Barangay Pasonaca were in their sleeping quarters at the Kawmpang Elementary School sports complex in Barangay Bangkal, when around 20 bandits seized them at past 1 a.m.

Another worker, Larry Velasquez, managed to escape, but was wounded when the bandits opened fire. He reported the incident to the police.

Ammie Guerrero and Dayang Ramos, relatives of two of the victims, said the kidnappers, who identified themselves as members of the Abu Sayyaf’s Ajang-Ajang group, called them at around 1 p.m. yesterday and demanded ransom of P1 million each.

A town official said the bandits were behind “low-profile kidnappings” in the province. The official said most of the cases were not reported to authorities because the victims were released after less than a day in captivity with the payment of a “token” amount.

The kidnapping occurred shortly before President Duterte was scheduled to visit a military camp in Jolo.

Abu bomb expert slain in clash
Meanwhile, a bomb expert of the Abu Sayyaf was killed in an alleged encounter with government troops in Bongao-Tawi-Tawi yesterday.

Ibno Moro, a henchman of Radullan Sahiron, fired at members of Joint Task Force-Tawi-Tawi who tried to arrest him in Barangay Kamagong at about 10:30 a.m, said Capt. Jo-Ann Petinglay, Western Mindanao Command spokesperson.

Petinglay said Moro had a standing warrant of arrest for murder.

Moro, said to be a former member of the group of slain leader Jul Asman Sawadjaan who operated in Tawi-Tawi and Sulu, was ranked eighth on the list of most wanted persons in Tawi-Tawi. He was tagged in the massacre in Barangay Lapid-Lapid, Bongao in 1998 and kidnappings in Bongao and Panglima Sugala in 2002 and 2004.

Petinglay said Moro was the third Abu Sayyaf killed in military operations this week. Two henchmen of the sub-leaders of Abu Sayyaf commanders Abraham Hamid and Alhabsy Misaya were arrested in Taganak  and Lagan island on Thursday.
