Duterte slams Hapilon: Bakit ka magpapa-emir, tarantado ka ba?

President Rodrigo Duterte has slammed Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon for accepting the role of “emir” in Southeast Asia from the Islamic State (ISIS), a move which was believed to have made the Maute group stronger over the past year.

Even without mentioning Hapilon’s name, Duterte questioned his authority to assume the title of “emir.”

“They were trying to raise the ISIS flag. At mag-assume ng mga emir na title. Who are you to do that?” he said in his speech at the celebration of Eid’l Fitr in Malacañang Tuesday (June 27).
“Bakit ka magpa-emir-emir ka kung sino. T****** ka ba? Hindi nga ako nagpa-emir na Presidente ako na Maranao, u***. Eh ‘di ako na lang sana,” Duterte fumed.
Security officials said Hapilon’s designation as “emir” indicates ISIS’ plan to expand to the Philippines.

Government forces are in the thick of battling the ISIS-linked Maute group in Marawi City.
Duterte did not hide his wrath at ISIS for wreaking havoc in Marawi City in its quest to establish a “wilayat” or province of the ISIS.
“When they started to entertain the idea of waging a war against government, eh ‘di kampo na lang sana ang binira nila. But you create hell in the midst of sa Marawi? Paka-t****** mo naman. Torpe ka,” he said.
